Hen re-homing
We're passionate about hens and that extends to hens that have spent their early years as part of the commercial egg laying industry. We believe that they should get an opportunity to have a happy retirement in a forever home.
We also believe that owning and re-homing these ex-commercial hens can be incredibly rewarding - with many of our own flock over the years having been ex-commercial hens that have been rescued. Just seeing these girls go from an often barely feathered state to the most confident, characterful, and gorgeous looking birds is reward itself.
We work with Fresh Start for Hens as one of their Collection Points (Hertford) and regularly run rehoming days (on average once a month) where we receive up to a few hundred hens which are then given a well earned rest prior to our re-homers coming to pick up their girls.
You also get the added benefit of a pretty regular supply of fresh eggs which always seem to taste soooo much better than shop bought eggs!!
In addition, sometimes our customers' circumstances change and they are unable to look after their flock any more. We have a large number of regulars who will often have capacity to take on an additional hen or two
If you are looking to rehome some hens, or ducks, please visit the Fresh Start for Hens website: https://freshstartforhens.co.uk/collection-points/ or visit our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/HertfordFreshStartForHens/
Ex-commercial Hens
We regularly have re-homing weekends where we have anything from a few to hundreds of hens that we re-home to local families.
During these times, we may have limited holiday boarding availability, but we will always try to find space for our regular boarders.
Ex-commercial Ducks
We love ducks too, and whilst a little (well maybe a lot) more mucky than hens, they are equally able to help entertain you for hours just watching them!
We also re-home ducks periodically.
Cockerels
Whilst we cannot provide boarding for cockerels, we have a wide network of hen lovers who are often looking for a boy to keep their girls in line.
If you are looking for a cockerel for your flock, please let us know and we can try to find one for you.
Alternatively if, for any reason, you are looking to re-home a cockerel, please contact us and we will do our best to help re-home him.
